Introduction
For some, using a huge, good performing, kick ass aftermarket heatsink with a high rpm fan is the solution to processor heat problems.  Some brave ones would resort to air-cooled peltiers as an answer to their heat woes.  But for the extreme enthusiast/ overclocker, watercooling is the ultimate solution.  And the secret in having a good watercooling system is in the waterblock.  It is the main ingredient in the construction of an effective watercooling rig.

Enter DangerDen.  I'm sure most of you have heard of the name when watercooling comes into the topic.  They have been said to be one of the best in the business based on customer feedback.  They have a good track record when it comes to their product's quality and customer support.  So for those thinking of buying or building a watercooling system, let me help you on your option by checking and testing out Dangerden's stuff.  let's start by putting their a-MAZE-ing Copper Waterblock, the MAZE1, to the test.

The a-MAZE-ing Copper Block
Also known as the MAZE1, this waterblock from DangerDen is milled from solid copper.  Their design is quite unique that the block is made with the water channels on 1 side and then the copper caps with the inlet and outlet soldered to it.  Thus, the whole waterblock is cooled and not just the core area, meaning it's peltier friendly.  This design also lessens the possibility of leakages which would mean disaster as we all know when that happens.  To prove that their blocks can withstand pressures in excess of 1000+ psi, they put their blocks to a pressure test, see here.  So if you have powerful pumps or is planning to use one, have no fear.  This block handle it.  The block itself is lapped from all sides therefore are as flat as you can get.

The clip is also easy to fit and ensures that the block is properly seated onto the chip and socket.  One of the best mounting clip I've used on my old motherboards.  Of course if you've got those new mobos with those 4 holes around the socket, I suggest using the Plexiglass Socket A Clamp.  Both clamps have the thumbscrew in the middle that further holds down the block in place.

Results
Using the board's thermistor, these are the temps acquired at idle and at full load using the Athlon T-Bird 1 Ghz OC'ed to 1.2 Ghz at 1.85v.

Idle Temps

Full Load Temps

IDLE: 23C/73.4F
FULL LOAD: 27C/80.6F

Conclusions
From the results I've got using the testbed, I am very much pleased with the performance this block achieved.  The whole block is cooled evenly on all sides based on the readings I got using a Raytek Mini temp gun aimed at it.

Can't wait to try some peltiers on this as I am sure this block can handle it.  This is one professionally made block that I can recommend for its quality and performance.  DangerDen stood up to its name and so did the block's name....a-MAZE-ing!

*Watch out for our test with their latest MAZE 2 block.
