Results
Using Sisoft Sandra 2005 Pro’s File System Benchmark and Flash Benchmark utility, we compared the Corsair Flash Voyager USB 2.0 Drive to a USB 1.1 flash drive. Using a stopwatch, we also did a 110mb file transfer to and from the flash drives to find out the actual data transfer rate. Below are the results.

Here we can see the big difference in speed when working with Corsair's Flash Voyager.
Again, this shows the amount of work we can do and the time we can save buy using the Flash Voyager

*Higher is better*
Above results show how extremely fast this flash drive is compared to the USB 1.1 drive and against the other USB 2.0 High Speed Flash drives on Sandra's database.
Torture
Test
To
really test how tough this unit is, we submitted this drive to our own torture
test. We dropped the unit on the floor, banged it, stepped on it and even
submerged it on water for hours. Not satisfied we placed the unit on one of the
pockets and place the pants on the washing machine for a full cycle. After we
dried it for about 10 minutes and to our surprise, it still worked flawlessly.
Disclaimer:
Doing any of the torture test we put the Flash Voyager through might damage your
hardware and definitely voids your warranty. The test was done only to simulate
potential accidents that might happen during the course of the Voyager’s life.
We won’t be held responsible for any damage your Corsair Flash Voyager might
receive if you imitate this test.
Conclusions
Corsair’s
entry to the USB 2.0 flash drive market is definitely most welcomed. With their
Flash Voyager series they were able to bring very fast flash drives to the end
users. These high performance, high speed USB 2.0 flash drives makes working
with such devices a breeze. Data read/write time is reduced making your work
much more efficient. Transferring data to and from this unit is the fastest we
have seen on any USB flash drives we have used to date.
We
have submitted this unit to our own torture test and the Flash Voyager passed it
with flying colors. For those wanting an extremely fast and tough USB 2.0 flash
drive for whatever reason or use you may have for it, the Corsair Flash Voyager
is highly recommended.
Currently at US$32 according to Pricewatch, the Flash Voyager is on the expensive side when compared to other 256mb USB 2.0 drives. But then again if you would rather pay a few dollars more and have the performance, speed and quality that goes with any Corsair product, then the Flash Voyager is an excellent choice.
