Introduction

With the arrival of faster and more powerful processors, heat is becoming so much of an issue that sooner or later aircooling won't cut it anymore. So what's the next best thing after aircooling? What else but watercooling. Before, it was done for the pure pleasure of extracting the last juice out of your system but now it is becoming more apparent that we are getting closer to a time when heatsinks will be replaced by waterblocks instead.

Gone are the days when watercooling was considered a taboo by most average PC user. It used to be a dark craft only practiced by hardcore overclockers and enthusiasts. But with the advent of numerous professional watercooling kits readily available to those who wanna delve into this art, watercooling has started to slowly become part of many a computer users life.

However kits still pose as a challenge to most. The actual setting up of such kits still involves a bit of technical knowhow and skill. Opening the case, positioning the components, connecting the dots, etc can sometimes be too much to those not atuned into DIY work. To the enthusiast, it might be a piece of cake but to the average joe, it is quite a task. For it to become fully mainstream, watercooling has to be made easier. It should be made almost as easy as changing heatsinks.

That is where Corsair comes in. With a product that promises to deliver top notch watercooling that is easy to install and highly efficient, we might be getting closer and closer into making such cooling solution mainstream. Introducing, Corsair's first ever watercooling offering, the Hydrocool200.

The Corsair Hydrocool200 Xtreme Watercooling System

From the company whose name is synonymous to stability, reliability, overclocking and extreme performance comes a fully contained external water-cooling unit for performance personal computers, the Hydrocool200. Known worldwide for their famous memory, Corsair Microsystems has partnered with the world's largest manufacturer of liquid-based cooling system, Delphi, to deliver this revolutionary cooling product.

According to the spec sheet, the Hydrocool200 is capable of removing up to 200w of heat from your processor. Something that even the latest, loudest, most advanced and expensive heatsink to date cannot do.  The core of this extreme watercooling system is a patented copper cooling block from Delphi Thermal Systems. This block can be easily attached to both the Pentium 4 processor and the socket A processors from AMD.

This cooling system aims to keep the processor's temp as close as possible to ambient temperature regardless of load. It also aims to do all of this in a non-intrusive manner that does not produce a lot of noise. This is achieved by the Hydrocool200's ability to control fan speeds to match the thermal situation in the PC. The result of which is a cooling system that is easy to install, hihgly effective, quiet, intelligent and safe.

With all of that said, can this external unit really perform as claimed by its manufacturers? Does it have the same magic that Corsair has always been known for? Only one way to find out...
