Intro

Having just recently seen the performance the KT266A chipset can offer for your AMD processor with our ABIT KR7A-RAID review, we have no doubt that it is one of the best athlon ddr platform at the moment.  Showing stability and performance, the KT266A proved a very powerful DDR chipset.  Whether it's in the chipset or not, we will soon find the answers coz we've got another KT266A based DDR motherboard on our testbench.

So who is Chaintech?  Chaintech is one of fastest growing motherboard manufacturer in the world.  Although it's name is seldom associated as producers of high performance boards, the Chaintech name is known to most.  I have seen some of their video cards but I haven't actually tested nor used any of their mainboards.  In the enthusiast/overclocking circles, it is not a common brand name.  Most of their boards has been targetted for the "budget" market.  Lately though, Chaintech has been slowly developing motherboards based on high performance chipsets.   Today we will take a look at their attempt at the AMD DDR market with their KT266A offering, the Chaintech 7VJDA.

Like we said earlier, Chaintech boards more or less targets the budget market.  With this board they are moving away a little to that by using a high performance chipset in the name of the the KT266A.  But having said that, my personal impression is that it is made for those budget consumer wanting some extra performance and power for their next upgrade.  And what better opportunity by utilizing a proven, stable and powerful DDR chipset.  Knowing that in mind, expect that there will be areas of the board design where cost cutting can be implemented to bring the cost of the board down compared to its other  famous high priced motherboard counterparts.  Or not???
